How to commission a painting

Commissioning a painting is an opportunity to buy an original painting made just for you or for a gift while participating in the creative process.  Do you have a favorite location you wish you had a painting of? Do you have a place in your home you need a custom piece for? Or have you seen one of my paintings that is already sold but would like something similar?

How to commission a painting:

If you have a favorite location or subject you want to have a painting from, this can be done in two ways.  When possible, I prefer to travel to the chosen location and take my own photo references and complete field studies and sketches from which you can choose as a basis for your studio painting. In this scenario, you “sponsor” my painting and photo shoot trip to your chosen locale and a deposit is made toward the finished painting. From the sketches you decide upon which scene you want to commission, then we agree on the size and timeline.

The second scenario is using your photo references of the scene or subject. In this scenario, we collaborate using your photos and if the photos are sufficient in quality and lighting, I may be able to work from them. A deposit is made, we then agree on the size and timeframe.

If you wish to commission a painting that is similar to one of my existing sold or unsold paintings, I can work with you to paint it in the size and composition you wish. Again, a deposit is required to begin the painting.

Pricing for commissions is based on size and framing options.   You can either choose to have me select the frame, work with me on choosing a frame, or have the painting framed yourself.  The pricing will be comparable to a painting of the same size and depending on the frame selection.

When the painting is complete, I email images of the work for approval and once approved, we can discuss the framing options.  The final payment is required, then I ship or deliver the work after it has been framed.
